Living on the streets of Malaba

This boys story is a little different he came to us as a 16yr old, his mother has died and he had nursed her in the last days. After her death no one wanted him so he became a street boy. Living on the streets of Malaba a border town. But this boy had a burning desire to be educated as his mum as tried her best to send him to school even when she was sick, so he wanted to complete his education. He went to fight his own case to the District Commissioner who did have compassion and approached the child office to seek help.

Sunbeam was the next port of call, and the boy arrived at our door, it was difficult for a boy who is near an adult and lived on the streets with no order in his life to come into a structured children’s home. But his determination to be educated prevailed and he has settled we have enrolled him in a boarding school and also employed a teacher for private education until he caught up.

He is now doing well at boarding school preparing for exams in March, which will take him to the next level of education.
